Reflection for Sunday March 22nd, 2020

3/22/2020

This weekend we feel the pain of not being able to attend Mass.  The early church celebrated Mass in secret, and at great risk.  In German occupied Poland, priests were being killed, and the people were not allowed to attend Mass.  As a young priest, St. Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass secretly with a group of faithful Catholics. They placed their lives in jeopardy by attending Mass.  Those people were willing to risk their lives to celebrate the Mass and receive the Holy Eucharist.

There are still people who would be willing to put their lives in jeopardy in order to attend Mass, but wisdom dictates that we don’t gather right now.  However, we can spend personal time reading and reflecting on the readings.  Jesus is truly “the Word of God”, and he is present to us in the Liturgy of the Word at every Mass.  We can also do the prayer of Spiritual Communion found on this website.

Spend some time today reading and reflecting.  You’ll feel the Lord’s Peace when you spend time with him. Today’s readings are listed below.

Perhaps this time away from the Mass and Eucharist will cause us to hunger for the Lord more than ever!

“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”   Philippians 4:6-7

May the Peace of Christ fill your hearts…today and always.
