Lenten Reflection Series- March 19th, 2021

Today we celebrate the universal patron of the church as well as the foster father of Jesus, Saint Joseph. There are so many heroic, virtuous, and accredible moments in his life. My favorite part of them all? We don’t hear Joseph talk once in scripture.

Whether he was being visited by an angel, bringing his pregnant wife down to Bethlehem, escaping to Egypt, or losing his son in the caravan, Joseph is depicted as a man who doesn’t utter a word.

Actions have always spoken louder than words. By Joseph being silent, we can take so much away from his character. Joseph remains a great example to all men striving to be good Catholic fathers.

He is humble, obedient, faithful, loving, and strong just to name a few. He doesn’t complain about any of the misfortunes he was dealt, instead he always puts his best effort forward to protect his family.

He was obedient to the will of God even though what God was asking him to do could bring him humiliation or even death. Joseph recognized the voice of God in his heart, he was never lost or unsure of what to do.

Take time today to pray to Saint Joseph. Ask him for his virtues, characteristics, and intercession to his son Jesus. Pray he will make you the person God is calling you to be, the person who fulfills God’s agenda ahead of his own.

Joseph put his entire life on hold to raise a child that wasn’t biologically his as well as endangering his life. Seek out the people you may not bring yourself to love because it is an inconvenience, what would Joseph do?

God Bless,
Jonathan
