Jesus left us a helper

"But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7)

With all the uncertainty in the world today, I think we all wish we had a helper to keep us healthy and provide us with everything we need. Thankfully, Jesus did leave us his personal helper, the Holy Spirit.

In the Jewish tradition of the first century, it was customary that when a man and woman were to be married and the arrangements would be finalized, the man would return to his home and return for the woman when his father deemed the time ready. Usually the man would return home and build a house for his new family to abide in. In John 14:3, Jesus says
"If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

While the man was away preparing a home, his best man would stay and prepare the ceremony and keep the bride to be safe until his return. Just as Jesus left us to return to his father to prepare a house for us, so he left us the Holy Spirit, his best man, to watch over us and care for us until God the father tells Jesus he can return for us.

Have faith in God that he will send Jesus back to us when the time is ready but for now, leave your faith and prayers with the Holy Spirit for Jesus wouldn’t leave us in the hands of someone who couldn’t take care of us.

Father, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. We pray to you that we feel him dwelling in our presence and we remain in his protection until you send your son back for us.

God Bless,

Jonathan

Carol and Jonathan, thank you for your reflections. Encouragement at this time is extremely helpful.
