In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus heals two blind men in Capernaum. Matthew places this story early in his Gospel account but scholars believe this is his version of the blind healing in Mark’s Gospel which is placed right before entering Jerusalem for the last time. This is most likely to fulfill the John the Baptist prophecies in chapter 11 which includes “giving sight to the blind.”
It is one thing for us to reach out to Jesus and ask him to perform miracles in our lives, it is another thing to believe truly in his healing powers. This is evident in Jesus’ response to the men “Let it be done for you according to your faith.” Our faith is a gift that has to be nurtured and cared for. We strengthen our faith through the sacraments, prayer, and attending Mass.
Take today to assess your faith, is it as strong as it should be? How can you make time this Advent season to nurture your faith and share it with others?
