NIELSEN, Lonnie Dean Of Orchard Park, NY, loving husband, father, papa, and friend, passed away on January 20, 2021 at the age of 67, after battling dementia. Lonnie was born June 29, 1953 in Belle Plaine, IA to Paul and Helen (Pedersen) Nielsen. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1976 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Golf was his great passion in life and he turned professional in 1976 and went on to play in the PGA Tour from 1978-1983. He became the Head Golf Professional at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora, NY for 20 years from 1984 until he joined the PGA Champions Tour in 2004. He won two times on the Champions Tour in 2007 and 2009. He was inducted into the WNYPGA Hall of Fame in 2004, Iowa Golf Hall of Fame in 2010, and the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Besides golf, Lonnie also enjoyed music, playing cards, telling jokes, and eating ice cream. To know him was to love him. He was known for his infectious smile, quick wit, and sense of humor. NIELSEN, Lonnie Dean Of Orchard Park, NY, loving husband, father, papa, and friend, passed away on January 20, 2021 at the age of 67, after battling dementia. Lonnie was born June 29, 1953 in Belle Plaine, IA to Paul and Helen (Pedersen) Nielsen. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1976 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Golf was his great passion in life and he turned professional in 1976 and went on to play in the PGA Tour from 1978-1983. He became the Head Golf Professional at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora, NY for 20 years from 1984 until he joined the PGA Champions Tour in 2004. He won two times on the Champions Tour in 2007 and 2009. He was inducted into the WNYPGA Hall of Fame in 2004, Iowa Golf Hall of Fame in 2010, and the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Besides golf, Lonnie also enjoyed music, playing cards, telling jokes, and eating ice cream. To know him was to love him. He was known for his infectious smile, quick wit, and sense of humor. Lonnie is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Mary Jo, of 43 years; his 3 children, Sarah (Eric) Dolph of Cheektowaga, NY, Mollie (Kevin) Sulia of Pittsburgh, PA and Andy (Jen) Nielsen of Amherst, NY; 4 grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, Sean and Gabriella (“Ella Bella”); 3 sisters, Pam (Gary) Bartachek, Cathy (Wendell) Pace, and Loree (John) Weber; in-laws, Therese (Jerry) Houlihan, Colleen (Roe) McCabe, Dennis (Deb) Foley, Kevin (Gerri) Foley, Pat (Jill) Foley, Alan (Cheryl) Foley, and many nieces and nephews.
